My Shiatsu friend first introduced me to homeopathy 27 years ago. I was about to set off to get vaccinations for a trip to Thailand and she recommended I try homeopathy instead.

From then on, I always took homeopathic prophylactics whenever I travelled to faraway tropical paradises.

Then, 12 years later I was in the Lake District for a weekend on a walking camping trip with my Kabbalah teacher, friend and mentor and a few others. I was wearing insanely impractical clothing like flip-flops, shorts and had no raincoat. After our 4-hour trek in this beautiful landscape I came back to base cold and wet. I happened to be heard saying, “I’m going to get sick now” as I had worked out that if I ever got cold I got a sore throat, which went up to my head and then onto my chest and I was ill for 3 weeks.

It was James Ellis Jones, a homeopath, who overheard me and said, “Here, have an Aconite 30c”. I did as I was bid and, wow, I didn’t get sick. I was amazed and the experience started me on my homeopathic journey. I immediately found myself a homeopath and enrolled to study for four years at the College of Practical Homeopathy, later moving onto and graduating from the College of Homeopathic Education. As I see it, these little homeopathic pills speak to your vital force or your true intelligence. This is nothing to do with your ego or vanity. The remedies seem to go in search of the root of your disease and start the healing process.

I often tell people who come to see me with eczema or pimples that they are so lucky as at least we can see their disease, as opposed to a silent growing mass deep within. Somebody came to see me once with spots on his face that he had for a few months after being in India and taking conventional vaccinations. I gave him Thuja, which is one of our ‘never been well since vaccination’ remedies, and another one, Silica, which also helps draw pus from the body.

Eight months later he returned with an emotional problem, which was centred on coming to terms with his sexuality. I asked him how his skin was after the remedies and he said it was no better and that he had gone and got a hydrocortisone cream prescribed from the doctor. I then asked about his bowels as skin and bowels go together in my mind as I’m thinking, “he can’t be detoxing efficiently”. He then said that two weeks after the remedies he passed a 12cm tapeworm. Although vegetarian, unbeknown to him the spoons must have been crossed over in the kitchen in India. I shivered as I then saw the magic of the vital force. His vital intelligence thought that it was more important to push out the tapeworm than the spots on his face.

Thuja is also a secretive remedy on the emotional level. He had been keeping his sexuality secret from the world and the Thuja was now helping him come to terms with his sexuality and the truth of who he was. When people come to see me I take a timeline from conception (if possible) through to the present day. I’m looking for significant moments in their lives, both emotional and physical that created the tapestry of their life. I’m like Inspector Morse hunting around and asking all sorts of questions.

I also take a drugs history and family history and see what ailments are in the gene pool. Many of the diseases I see are often the tip of the iceberg, but underlying there is often a great disease deep within them. We go in search together on a journey, taking layer after layer off the onion, to find the heart and the truth so as to live more of their life in harmony.
